Gifford previously worked in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (DCAP) at the Institute of Mental Health. He was a pioneer member of the award-winning Response, Early intervention and Assessment in Community mental Health (REACH) team, which specialized in providing psychological assessments and evidence-based interventions in schools and in students’ homes.
Embracing this multi-faceted approach, Gifford worked closely with IMH and other general hospitals, Voluntary Welfare Organisations (VWOs), Family Service Centres (FSCs), Special Schools, and Educational Psychologists and School Counsellors from the Ministry of Education (MOE) to develop and provide holistic treatments for each child.
Next, Gifford headed Thomson Paediatric Centre (The Child Development Centre) as their Principal Psychologist and supervised his team of Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists and Early Intervention Specialist Teachers to provide integrated treatments for clients.
Gifford is trained and certified to conduct assessments to diagnose children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention-Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), Dyslexia and other disorders. He also conducts school readiness assessments and is experienced in writing reports that adhere to MOE guidelines.
Working in the Singapore Armed Forces Psychological Care Centre (SAF PCC) as a clinical psychologist, Gifford provided evidence-based psychological interventions for SAF regulars and Full Time Servicemen. Gifford was placed in charge of developing the psychological rehabilitation program for distressed servicemen in the PCC. Gifford presented a poster documenting the efficacy of the psychological rehabilitation program at the Asia Pacific Military Health Exchange.
Additionally, Gifford provides psychological assessments to organisations and statutory boards. He has also trained and provided supervision to psychology graduates who were receiving their advanced training in the Masters of Psychology (Clinical) program in the National University of Singapore (NUS). Gifford has also conducted several trainings and talks in schools and at public forums.
